  • Five pin indexing

I have a turret that will about every three rotations only half index after the five pin ... It drops all the pins , then starts to rotate but gets caught up ... I think it's getting bound up some where with the long link ... Any suggestions ?

Check cam roller in front of turret.

Roller/bearing is good ! You can trip the torsion latch and turret will cycle all 9 pins fine but nothing after the five pin ... Time delay gear spins and you see index trip lever dip but after the five pin nothing .... Sometimes the interlock probe will not return to latch the spider bearing ..... It's like it was getting stuck under the blocking fingers ... But it's not ...projection on bottom of TD gear pushes the bearing on. Indexing bell crank far enough down to index on 9 pin but dosent push it far enough down to index after five pin

Make sure your oil pan is installed correctly. If it shifts over, it will interfere with the motion of the 180 link, not allowing the projection on bottom of turret to get past long link. This will make it stop pretty much halfway through the 5-pin index

Check your bellcrank bolt, might be loose.

Check the height of your halo ring on the 7 pin side, if its two high, the bottom on the 5 pin chute will rub on it. Also check tension on your long turret belt.

Make sure all of your spoons are tight. I've had the bolts loosen enough to where a spoon would bind on the frame intermittently.
              ...I'd rather be bowling.

Long turret drive belt could be loose...but there are many items that could cause this. Try rotating the turret by hand past the five and see if you feel anything that might be causing the issue. If you do...remove the x-washer pin for the long link at the roller...and then do it again. If the hesitation disappears, you have eliminated some of the turret section and you can trace the long link circuit to find the issue.

Check for a loose indexing cam.

Been a while since I was on A-2's, but here we go. Some things to look at:

                    -Interlock probe rubbing halo ring
-Interlock probe hanging up on indexing trip lever
                    -Loose long turret belt
                    -Loose indexing cam
                    -Loose spoon getting caught up
-Interlock probe not pivoting freely (spacer gets gummed up, or probe gets pinched between the tabs on the center chute)

just a few items to check. hope this helps.

What is the proper tension on the long turret drive belt. I had lane ten that would not index past the 5, the pins would drop but no index. Hit the trip lever and it was good. I tightened the long turret drive belt a turn at a time and finally after 4 turns the problem went away. My question is do i now have too much pressure on the long belt?

This was exactly my problem on one of my lanes with the same problem... thanks for the heads up Witty!

The proper tension is tight enough to index past the 5 without hesitation. If it hesitates (or does not index as you had) then tighten a few turns and run again. You want as little tension as possible...but it still needs to get by the 5. Hope that helps.

Feel how much spring tension you have on your long link...if your FD finger flag adjust has too much stretch on the FD spring it will cause bad hesitation pushing long link back.
Also Check to make sure tab on the long link(FD lock tab) is not contacting the indexing yoke at the X washer pin. This will happen as the yoke goes on high of cam and long link is trying to go back at the same time.
Need to have at least 1/16" clearance at that point. Let me know if that makes any sense.

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....
