Thanks for looking guys, but it seems to have been the scissors adjustment in the detector. Appears to be running fine now. If anything else arrises--will let you all know.

Jap. A-2 Moving Deck Problem
O.K. guys need an idea. Have had a moving deck problem on one machine for a couple of days now. Here is the situation. Moving deck will not move to set pins gradually. It will stay stationary until 270 and then 'slam back'. If you unhook the scissors spring the deck will shift properly but of course it won't pick pins up b/c the scissors spring is off. What should we be looking for? Could the problem be in the detector? Any other ideas would be appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like you have a bind somewhere in the moving deck. I would check the back torsion shaft for binding. Also put the machine down to 270 setting new pins. LOTO. Take the moving deck cables off pull on the deck cable manually and see if you feel any binds. Let us know what you find.(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

check the geneva bearings and ball crank on the 10 pin side.
like popeye said, you have a bind some where, could be deck pads, bolt dropped down out out of a deck chute, scissor might be bent upwards and catching against a spotting finger... spotting finger bent... frayed deck cables (in the deck tube)...

If it seems to calm down the slamming if you remove the scissor spring - I would start checking the 1 to 1 and you will probably notice is skipping during the cycle at some point. Sounds like a broken key to me. Or something else in the drive train of the gearbox.

If it waits until 270 degrees to shift...this is where the scissor cam follower is pushed back onto the high dwell of the moving deck scissor cam. This might tell us that the moving deck scissor latch is binding due to the scissor cam being on it at 90 degrees...not allowing the latch to clear the moving deck cam follower until 270 degrees. I would be looking at the latch to see if there is something not quite right...or the bolt for the moving deck cam follower shaft is broken causing the moving deck cam follower to be crooked in relationship to the latch.

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

Left a rant about this in the bowling forum…

Turret clutch rebuild
At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
