  • pit cushion repair

recently i had a pit cushion go bad due to the 2 bolts that mount the cushion to the cushion mount wore all the way through. i was wondering how some of you guys have successfully repair a cushion that this has happened to. i figured i'll just build up the area by welding then drill the holes for the bolts. does the rubber repair that brunswick sell work? thanks in advance for your comments

    Re: pit cushion repair

What you need is a repair plate to weld onto the backside of the cushion. I have them made locally, but they can be purchased from several aftermarket suppliers, including Classic Products out of Indiana. (Classic Products also has a newer warehouse in the Florida area, but I dont remember what trade name they use there)

The kit should cost about $20, and should include longer mounting bolts and locknut/jamnuts.

I have them on 19 out of 28 lanes (soon to be on all). Some of them have been in for as long as 18 months, no problems to report so far.

DO NOT weld the entire perimeter, or you WILL melt the facing material. All you need is 6 or 8 half inch tack welds spaced around the edges.

I too have used the repair plates (cracked corners from no one periodically tightening the hardware before i got here). They work well, aren't too expensive either.

I weld mine all the way around the perimeter, usually starts a small fire, so weld em outside the building If you're melting the facings (J/B), using too much current. Just have to stop every so often and blow out the fire ... he he he!!
