  • Finger in a bad spot...

A2, 7 pin spotting finger (on 8 pin side) is rubbing into the stationary deck, worn a flat spot in it about 1/16" thick so far. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems, aside from the occasional broken finger, but I ~know~ it's not a good thing. The rest, on brief inspection, appear relatively even, maybe 3/8" gap between each finger and deck. It's only that one finger. Doesn't appear bent or cracked. Might the deck be warped and causing this? I haven't had a chance to dig into it much yet (Since it's ~not~ causing any symptoms, and so many things ~are~ but it's got me concerned, nonetheless. I know it ~will~ be a problem soon. Any ideas come to mind before I dive into the grease and metal shavings?

    Olds:
Not uncommon for deck webbing to be cracked around rear finger bolt on the seven pin position,
    First place I'd check.

      Olds:
First post assumed you had already checked the finger in question for being bent.
A good way to check a finger is to hold it, base to base, against a new finger of the opposite side. No light should show between them.

Sounds like a bent spotting finger or a cracked moving deck. Good luck.

I have seen moving decks that the area where the spotting finger mounts can be bent/warped WITHOUT showing any cracks. I have used tape as a shimming material to position the spotting finger correctly as a temporary fix. The bent deck can be cause by turning the gearbox the wrong way when there is a deck jam or by forcing the pin out of the deck without reversing the gearbox.

I have not had good success straightening a deck that is bent in such a manner.

Well, upon closer inspection, I think it was the ~other~ finger I'd replaced, since it looks nice and shiny.... and this one don't. So perhaps it is simply bent, I haven't pulled it yet. All free<???> time's been devoted to lightning induced magicscore nightmares... Finally found and killed the last bug tonight, I think. Got one MPU board to replace, and I'll have 12 lanes scoring again. Sheesh. Then I'll look deeper into ten, and hopefully find it's only the finger. Prior mechs and cheap owners... the snubber's been replaced with some farm-rigged-homemade excuse for a brunswick part... so I'd get frequent pileups in the 7 chute as a result... ~that~ I know broke fingers there often. But apparantly it was the same one every time...

Or so holds my ~initial~ theories, anywho...
