  • Magnetic Clutch

Had a pinwheel stop about 3 times,no binding in p/w system.,the mag.clutch shows various ohms aprox.5.85 to 2.37 its just plain all over the scale.A new clutch reads 4.84 solid...no variances.I plan on checking all mag.clutches but what is an allowable reading so i know as to which one is going bad soon.(I checked at the plug end.) As i said...all else is fine but for the clutch only reading.

    Re: Magnetic Clutch

    Blackout:
Check screws on plug, then use alligator clips on ohm meter and manipulate wiring along the cord whilst observing readings, sounds very much like a partially separated wire, usually occurs close to clutch.
Windings in clutch seldom vary on their own.
    Hope of some help.

      Re: Magnetic Clutch

i agree with roscoe of getting a fluctuations in ohms something is loose but the proper ohms reading for a magnetic clutch is supposed to be between 580-760 ohms but ive yet to find too many that are in the proper range this ohms reading is according to the service manual troubleshooting section page 4-17
