  • Making new out of old

How many mechanics do there own lathe work? We turn everything here from a Pin wheel drive pulley to turret clutch top pulleys. I just got a new 20" metal lathe because the old big one was starting to wear out some and even though I may not be saving a ton I can still get a few more years out of some of the stuff. Lately we have been welding the pin gates where they wear out from pins and then putting them on a diamond wheel to dress them up real nice again. Does anyone else go through all this or do most just replace with a new one? I myself enjoy working with lathes and once the employees were taught the correct way to use them they too enjoy facing at least one part a night.
