  • motors also index springs

This is a 2 part post to save from posting things twice. #1)Rebuilding motors.,is there a way to test capacitors and windings to see if they are getting tired/worn down and the general readings they should have.Dont know if it makes a differance but i dont have the old cast iron motors.#2)After replacing all of the index trip lever springs and studs for turrets we are now getting broken springs, about 7 so far and all 7 have broken in the same exact spot, replaced them late summer for age, preventative reasons but now they are biting us,anyone else have troubles? All is aligned and in great shape. Thanks in advance for your input!!

    Re: motors also index springs

Seeing as I had a supply of them when I replaced some of the old "A" machine style snubbers, I use the spring that was on the A machine snubbers for my trip pedals, they are stiffer (thicker wire) and provide a more positive lock for the indexing latch.

If you're breaking the springs, I'd say that you are trying to put too much tension on the spring ... with a pin on the pedal, if the coils are totally collapsed and binding up on each other, I'd back off on the FRONT adjustment until the coils don't bind up on each other.

Make sure when adjusting trip lever that when you hold down on trip lever the coils of the springs dont overlap each other this will cause the spring to wear in half.
