  • One Mind Boggling Problem

Okay i have one lane, runs absolutelly fine. Until someone has to get on top of it to do a respot or clear a deck jam. the rake will jolt and then pull back to about the #2 and 3 spots as the deck is coming down to set a new rack and cause the deck to crash onto the rake. I have done everyhting i could, lubricated and god knows what else. Any ideas?

Check your sweep hook adjustment and your sweep hook cam follower bearing in your detector

Chaser...what is happening to your machine is when someone sits on the electrical channel, it is causing the crossmember between the rake lift shaft and rake sweep shaft to flex due to the electrical box being mounted to it. It changes the relative position of the curved shoe that controls the rake sweep hook height. If you check the rake sweep hook adjustment, you will probably find the hook too low and when someone sits on the elecrical channel, it will be even lower, causing it to hang up on the block for a short period of time. Stop the machine at 45 degrees and stand on the pindeck to measure the height of the sweep hook. Then, while you are still standing there, have someone sit on the electrical channel and see if it lowers. I think you will be surprised. Good luck...

      Just my two cents worth...

THNX, come to think of it it only slams when someone is sitting on the electrical channel.

Nice piece of diagnostic work ... never seen that one before

I'm just typing out loud here, but seeing as the sweep hook adjustment is a decided go-no go thing, the hook would have to be badly out of adjustment in the first place and/or the bearing broken, right?? My hooks aren't even close to the block when the rake's locked out (about a 3/8 gap), but engage with travel left over when they're supposed to sweep.

Chaser, better check the bearing out also, (as david suggested) broken outer race will reduce the available clearance and contribute to the problem.
