  • kinda new parts

have been cleaning up today and found alot of parts that were ordered way back in the 70s .....some have a little rust on em..like springs and other stuff....you think if parts with some age on em that have not been used and a little rust could be ok to still use...of corse I will remove all the rust I can before use....but how about the age factor.....clutches ..springs

I also have three old balls not sure who made em but they are called (Mixer two)..its an ugly rubber ball ...but they have never been drilled...just running me mouth

    Re: kinda new parts

I would say that if the rust removal didnt cause any problems with close tolerance or clearence or fit then the parts would be fine. For a clutch disk or turret clutch type material I would be a little skeptical of the quality especially if you dont wether they have been soaked with water or oil or the like. William

      Re: kinda new parts

It would depend on how much rust you are talking about. Any appreciable amount on springs could cause the the springs to be too weak. Any steel bushings that have rust on the surface that mates to an oilite bearing should be trashed. Rubber parts would also be suspect if any dry rot has occured. Belts would also fall under that same problem. Ball bearings with rust on the races should be trashed. Other than those items, clean the parts up and enjoy the savings...(can't think of anymore right now) Good luck...
