scissor links

#5 scissor will not open fully and all the others are sloppy it's pitiful.,get the occasional blackout due to the #5 being blocked by the scissor.Even after adjusting cables it's a sad scissor deck.Question is:can i replace the scissor links(think there's 3 of them right?)without ripping the deck apart.,like take scissors off and remove the links one at a time.Need to remove scissor spring??Lead man too lazy to do the work and i'm tired of the slop in scissors so...I'll do it.

Have you removed just the 5 pin scissor to be sure it is not just a problem with the bearings and shoulder pins that hold the scissor links together?I have seen houses where the scissor cables had been over tightened for so long that the small steel spacer or bearing ( don't have my book handy for the exact part name)had been egged out to where there was quite a bit of slop in the scissors .This is probably not your problem but I would certainly check this before I started swapping the toggle links that you are talking about.

I have had the connector tube get bent when the scissors link rivets come loose and the link gets jammed. Its not difficult to remove the tube if you have 75915 or up machines. Before that the pins at the end were knurled and pressed in. With a C-clamp and some sockets you should be able to get them out. Sight down the tube first to see if it is bent. Tubes are very soft aluminum and seem to be very easy to straighten. If the tube is bent the scissors will not fully open.
