• Gearbox Timing Dilemma

Ok, I have a gearbox with some timing issues.

4-1 at zero degrees.

2-1 slightly past zero.

1-1 slightly before zero.

All internal timing marks line up correctly.

Timing mark on MD/Scissors cam does not line up with follower at 90 degrees.

Machine runs fine, but has a spotting issue scince the deck shift out of time with the 2-1. (pins wobble) The deck has a slight forward shift when starting from zero and will jam if timing isn't advanced slightly. It has been like this for a long time, but now I'd like to fix it since I have time.

What do you all think? Twisted keys in 1-1 AND 4-1? I replaced 2-1 yesterday with no change.

Adam:
Most likely twisted one to one key. As concerning the two to one, they will be short a few degrees at the rake crank, when in lowest position. Therefor, will appear slightly advanced at 0.

sounds like the 1:1 is twisted to me too. Had the similar symptoms on #1 , turned out that the 1:1 key was sheared fron the shaft.
Best of luck

I have one like that to. I try not to think about it too often. One of these days I keep telling myself.

Re: Gearbox Timing Dilemma

Thanks guys, it was a twisted key in the 1-1 spur gear. Runs great now.

Now I only have 6 more 1-1s in need of work.
