  • detector question

We have a model A detector that we purchased to take apart and put back together for practice. On the shaft that the strike controller and strike selector pivot on, there are 3 additional parts on that shaft between the controller/ selector and side plate. According to the current Brunswick manual, these parts are obsolete. On our A-2s these parts are replaced by a spacer that takes up the space between the side plate and the strike controller and selector. My question is, what was the original purpose of these 3 additional parts? The only purpose they are serving on this detector is to take up the space, as they seem to pivot freely and do not interact with any other mechanism. My old dectector manual from the late 50s does not seem to reference them at all. Thanks for reading.
