  • Humpback ball returns

Ok Fellas J-Rock here from Southern Illinois. 82-30 6525 chassis. Have 6 lane center. Humpback ball returns on all. On 2 pairs of lanes now in order to get balls back I need 2 have both lanes on. The ball goes in the ball hole on one lane and right when it goes in it binds and stops the humpback belt altogether. Drive belt is still spinning and if it runs long enough it will start to get hot and smell. If i turn the other lane on when this happens it will bring the ball back. It happens that way on either lane. Any Ideas on what to look for?

The clutch pulley you have is a on the lane that the belt slips is a grey Vantage pulley

The belts do not set into these all the way - and it only happens on humpback exits - the belt is only engaged into a small part of that pulley

You need to install the shiny - non painted original AMF pulleys on these lifts

I have had this happen a couple times cleaning the belt will help but if the belt is to long you can use a shorter spring on the tension pulley to get more tension and use a little shorter belt when you replace it. I did not know about the different pulleys something for me to look at when I go in.

You can also use v-belt dressing on the belt to relieve the situation until you can change the pulley. Also, there are different size pulleys available which can be used to change the speed of the lift and or the speed of the paddle drive.

I got small with the original VAN. PBL pitched them in the trash.

Ok fellas I know i have the speed reduction pulleys on my ball returns i guess they are vantage. Does AMF make reduction pulleys? But thank you I think you have narrowed it down for me a little.

J Rock, I belive Jerry is talking about your clutch drive pulleys on your ball lift, not the rudder drive pulleys. I was thinking that you may have a bad or wear drive clutch on your lifts. Make sure the set screws are still tight on the clutch pulleys. I also have seen oil get on the clutch and make it slip. Sounds like you will be pulling a couple of lifts.

J rock, if you have a bad one way clutch you would need both lanes on. When you have the issue watch for slipping belts or no movement anywhere. (clutch)

If the drive belt is moving and gets hot enough to smell, the belt is slipping on the lift drive pulley for the reason King stated.
