  • 15 LB QUESTION

If you have a player dropping to 15 lbs to try to increase his carry what would be your best advise as the "pro" to this person to him from over throwing or launching the ball. It isn't that he can no longer handle the 16 as his speed is pretty high as it is. What he is trying to acomplish is a little better carry on the "off" hits & maybe a little more rotation & finish on the longer patterns. I have tried to suggest that he slow his feet & "stroke" the ball or try to feel the ball come off his hand but he says this is just not natural to him. Any other helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By tha way he also feels the 15 just don't "hit" like 16's. I have tried to convince him that many players are now using even 14 & have zero issues with hit. Help me open his mind!

I try and get everyone into a free swing per say, hold all the weight of the ball in your opposite hand and as you push out roll it into the position your wanting to release it in and let the ball fall back in a "free swing" and it should feel as if your walking by the ball.
To throw the ball slower you have to adjust the speed you push and drop the ball as that is what slows the feet down. If you push the ball out fast the momentum will make you walk faster.

Agreed, he has a very "muscled" game...Not sure how to change him. He is willing to learn but I am afraid to suggest changes," if it ain't broke don't fix it" stays with me. He has numerous 300 & 800's. But he wants to change so he is open to any suggestions to "free" him up! Thanks Drill!

While stepping up onto the approach imagine yourself dead tired and weak, maybe you have the flu. Lazily line up for your shot… Then…… with your head hung low step forward one step, and a five boards to the lefty (if you’re a righty). Place your fingers in the ball as if you have arthritis. While loosely gripping the ball, head hung low hold the ball only half as high as normal. Now if you’re convinced you are exhausted you are ready to begin. Remember to begin with only half the determination. When you reach the foul line, wake up and rip the cover off.

        good luck

Well I will suggest that! He trys to tear the cover off of everything but throws the ball realatively straight! So thanks for that suggestion!

Everyone shoots 300's & 800's now a day, send him to me if you really want to see him improve. Change is what makes us better, take what works and move on and keep the rest for another day.

Yeah well he was shooting them when they were uncommon, get a 1/2 page write up in the sports section in those days. He is having difficulty with the change. I have tried to convince him to drop the rubber sole & slide some but he says he feels like he's surfing! Pretty stubborn ol' dinasour. I agree change is a good thing, out with the old & in with the new! Being in PA it would be a bit hard to send him too you but will pass on any & all advice given! Thank you Drill!
