  • Open Score issues??

    Hey Gang,
For those who are using Open Score for their lanes, are any of you running accross some issues here and there? I'm trying to see if some of the glitches I notice are happening to others? Listed below happens from time to time.

    1. After pressing the "s" key, the pindication shows correct pinfall, but doesn't score the shot in the frame during the first ball.
    2. After pressing the "s" key, the pindication shows incorrect pinfall and scores incorrectly. (One particular example , someone got 8 on the first ball and it showed as only getting 2 pins down.
    3. If bowling on 3 frames per turn for example, and after only say the second shot by that bowler , it jumps to the next bowler, and it's not their turn yet?

Not sure what is causing some of these things, but I'd like to see if anyone is experiencing some of these issues or other issues I haven't had. This way when I chat with Jimmy, we can cover all the bases for when he does some enhancements.....

    Thanks!!

Hey Steve, most of the problems I experienced so far have turned out to be user-error...incorrect scores I was able to contribute to my webcam getting bumped by the kids or a cord being moved, etc. Then, as soon as I recalibrate the camera, I'm good to go for a while. One issue i have found is no score being displayed in frame 9, but I don't remember if it occurs after a 9th frame stike or spare...it never bothered me much because it doesn't affect the final score at the end of the game. I'll keep an eye on these issues and report any problems on this thread.

The only glitch I have had is after restarting a new game it miss scores the first bowlers first 2 throws then scores the rest perfect. 2 fixes are restart the bowler or score correct the first 2 throws. This only seems to happen if we take a break after a game and not come back for an hour or so. Do not let this scare anyone from trying openscore. The software is awesome and a total asset to these mini bowling lanes. I can't wait for future updates.

OK....thanks guys,..Tate, yes, I have had that issue happen several times also, forgot about that one. Keep me posted on anything new you may experience, and any other people out there, please post any issues on this thread. This way when Jimmy does any future updates, he can have any issues that need correcting all in one place. Thanks for your help and input!!

Another thing I noticed is that at times, I have to recalibrate the light threshold settings from time to time, it seems like the prior values no longer work properly and settings need to be readjusted.

This is a great program and once these corrections are made it will be awesome especially when the future plans are implemented, and again I have to say, Thank You Jimmy!!!!

The title of this thread is somewhat misleading, but okay.

Thanks for putting a list together. The "first two shots" scoring error has actually been fixed. Steve has a test version of the software that has incorporated those changes.

As far as light values changing, there is nothing that software can really "do" for that. Part of it depends on the grade of webcam that you use and the lighting conditions. If you have a camera that adjusts to light, then that adds into the variability of things. Always a fun thing!

The 9th frame score bug is a logic issue in the program. It only happens when there's a mark in the 9th.

Steve, the issues you've had with splits not showing up and the 'd' key no longer working are results of that code merge. The functionality is just in another file I have to copy into the current code set. Basically, before shipping that last version to you, I merged the last production release with your current beta release, which lost some changes.

          I'll start compiling an update.

            Hey Jimmy,
I wasn't sure what else to call this thread, but was just trying to see if anyone else had any glitches that I may not have had or noticed, and to be albe to put all of the info in one place to discuss it so that way we would no have to look all over. Thanks for the update and responding!! Just didn't know if part of the program crashed or not....LOL Jimmy, give me a call soon, I want to see if a couple ideas are possible in the future... hopefully easy things to make it easier for user adjustments.

Last night was the first night I've used Openscore with multiple bowlers, we were in the 2nd or 3rd frame I think and the 3rd bowler threw a strike but it scored as a 9 or something so I went in and did a score correction and put in the strike but it was still on the 3rd bowler after the strike was put in. So I went to skip bowler to move the red bar down to the 4th bowler and everything was fine until the next frame when the 3rd bowler was up again. He threw his first ball and hit the button, it showed the pindication for what he left and then jumped to the 4th bowler without giving him any score in that frame. So again I manually score corrected his score but it kept skipping the 3rd bowler for the rest of the game.

The second issue i'm having now is with my new computer that I just installed Openscore onto. The actual "text" for the scores looks a little wider than it did on my other computer and when it gets to a three digit score the numbers start to overlap into the next box of the scoregrid. I chatted with Jimmy and he said it sounds like an aspect ratio problem. I changed the resolution through windows and through the Openscore configuration but it does the same exact thing no matter what resolution its in. It almost looks as if the original computer was showing the text in a "condensed" looking font that fit fine and now this new computer looks like a normal width font that doesn't fit in the boxes. Here's a few pics to shown what I mean.

Here's on the old computer where everything fits fine:

Here's on the new computer where the text is too big:

If anyone has run into this problem before or has any ideas on how to fit it let me know, the only thing I could think of is if the new computer doesn't have the same condensed font that the program needs but I would think the numbers in the program should be internal to the software and not dependent on a font that windows has.

I also noticed on one of my old score pictures that the software didn't put a score in the 8th frame with a strike and the next two balls already being scored:

                Hi Scaleman,
I have had the same glitch where every once in a while it will show the pindication, but not score for that frame, and jump to the next bowler. It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while. Not sure why that happens. Also, when I was running this program on my laptop, the numbers fit fine inside the boxes, but when I use OS on my new computer, the numbers also overlap. Jimmy said that was because the grid is on a different layer than the numbers and the numbers are text format and the grid is another format. He said he will fix that in the future when he makes further enhancements. Now the last issue, I've only had it where it doesn't put a score in the 9th frame if there is a strike there, but always have had the 8th frame filled in. Hmmmm...that is strange. Jimmy said the 9th frame has a different algorithm due to the 10th frame bonus shots that follow the 9th frame, and he'll fix that too. That is what I know of those glitches. Normally the scoring works great, but I've had a few times where after a couple games, the scoring keeps making constant errors, and what I usually do, is reboot the computer without erasing the scores, and that usually works. Hope that helps......

Not sure what happens at times, but last night during rock N bowl, the scoring was making many errors, it was constant correction. It was working fine for weeks, just needing occasional corrections from time to time. I rebooted and recalibrated, and nothing seemed to help. Not sure why this happens. The calibration screen was crisp and clear and no visible interference. It would at times show a couple pins still standing when a strike was thrown, then another time when a couple pins were standing it registered a strike. Anyone have computer flare up's like that?

That's a good thought, Dberber. It's hard to check I'm sure, but if you get the lights going and fired up and just watch on the calibration screen, you may see the "flashes" that Dberber describes. Its a good thought, and worth a shot to look into.

No, it's not that....I've used Rock N Bowl a lot and normally works great. So not sure... when it's on calibration mode, the laser lights don't even show up.... No lasers reach the pin curtain....

I had that happen with my first webcam, it was a Logitech C110 I think, it was working fine for a few weeks when I first set everything up and then it started having really bad lag issues. When I was in the calibration screen it was take the camera like 3-4 seconds to update the image of the pins, it was like it was taking snapshots instead of a video feed. I tried rebooting and restarting the software but the problem kept coming back, so I got fed up and bought another camera, its a Microsoft Life Cam and it works great, I haven't had a problem since!

Hmmm that's what I have, a Microsoft Life Cam for about $100. Also it always shows a continual video feed, no lag as what you had. So I'm not sure what else it could be just maybe the computer or program is stubborn at times.....LOL

Steve, have you tried running it without special effects lighting? I know you haven't had problems in the past, but scoring systems can be very finicky. I would try it under normal house lighting for a while just to make sure it's not the special effects lighting. If it works, then you may just need to re-angle the special effects lighting.
If it can't be fixed with a hammer, try a bowling pin! They're heavier and more surface area for whacking!
