Number 1 complaint for bowling leagues?... The season is too long! I think I've found a solution, at least for us over the summer.
I own a 6-lane vintage alley with Brunswick A pinsetters, Gold Crown masking units, Gold Crown projector tables, and above ground ball returns.
We run a Summer Fun league with no commitment. Each night is its own event, complete with payout at the end of the night. Want to bowl - just show up.
It is a no handicap, blind draw (2, 3, or 4 people per team based on the amount of bowlers that show up.
We do all types of bowling other than normal 10-pin. Opposite hand with bumpers, leaster, scotch, baker, 9-pin, 8-pin, and combinations of all of that and more. No normal 10-pin.
We get a lot of our normal league bowlers as well as 'civilians', some of which become regular league bowlers.
Just thought I'd share the idea in case it could help anyone.
